AI Generated Alt Text

The second generation of Automatic Alt Text expanded the AI's recognition from about 100 to over 1,200 concepts, producing far more detailed and accurate photo descriptions for blind and low-vision users on Facebook and Instagram. It also introduced industry-first capabilities to convey positional layout and relative prominence, giving screen-reader users a much richer mental picture of what's in a photo.

Quiet Mode

Quiet Mode gives people more control over their time on Facebook by allowing them to mute push notifications for a set period, either on demand or on a recurring schedule. It launched alongside an expanded "Your Time on Facebook" dashboard, bringing time-spent insights, notification controls, and News Feed preferences together in a single space for managing well-being in the app.

Design

When AI can build anything, the hard part is deciding what's worth building. My process centers on judgment: what to make, and how good it has to be.

Design

Accessible design is good design. When you build for people with disabilities, you build a better product for everyone.

Gregory Sarkis-Kelly

I grew up in a household steeped in design, where it was common to ask why things were built the way they were, and to imagine how they could be better. Lucky for me, that curiosity became a career, and a lens I see the world through every day.

I spent my early career in startups learning how to work fast, focus on the user, and iterate. Now I'm at Meta supporting accessibility design across the company. Throughout my career, three things have consistently mattered most: a human-centered design process, ruthless prioritization, and a team that prioritizes its people.

When I'm not working, you'll find me snapping photos, eating fish tacos, at the beach, or with my wife, doxie, and new baby girl.
